Women's Run / Walk

The Event

The Rocky Mountain Soap Company Women's Run / Walk began in 2008 to bring women of all running levels together for a safe, fun, and inclusive event. Highlights include a healthy post-race reception, well-being stations along the course, a non-competitive atmosphere, and great swag.

The Inspiration

After beginning a morning running club at our workshop, owners Cam Baty and Karina Birch recognized what a tremendous impact it had on one staff members life in particular and wanted to share that opportunity.

"I started running in June 2007, just before my 48th birthday. I could not run to the end of the street (about 100 meters) without stopping at least 3 times. On February 6, 2008 I ran 10 kilometers without stopping. To me this was a huge accomplishment, made possible because the Rocky Mountain Soap Company started a running club at work. I thought, "I can do this", and just kept at it. It sure helps to have everyone at the company cheering for me and all the high fives keep me going. I am really looking forward to running the next RMSC Woman's Run."

2009 Winnipeg Women's Run

On Saturday, August 29th, 2009, the Rocky Mountain Soap Company held its inaugural Rocky Mountain Soap Company Winnipeg Women's Run/Walk in beautiful Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg. Runners received the value of their entry fee ($50) in Rocky Mountain Soap Company 100% Natural Bath & Body products, in terrific and sustainable Polo Park jute tote.

The event was a great success with close to 300 registered women enjoying warm summer sun and perfect running temperatures. Big smiles were everywhere before, during and after the 5km and 10km events.

The day opened with a terrific Zumba warm-up on the grass led by the energetic and invigorating team from Good Life Fitness. After the gun went off, it was time to run and walk! A highlight of the event was the surprise (and unexpected) visit from the Shriners parade on the run course. Participants reacted with a smile, and detoured around the band which made everyone smile...

At the end of the run, everyone was greeted with a high five, a yummy and healthy piece of chocolate from Xocai (yes, healthy!) and a Rocky Mountain Soap Company cooling aromatherapy blended towel.

Following the run/walk, everyone enjoyed two terrific sessions of outdoor yoga-on-the-grass, led by the great ladies from Lululemon. Everyone was quite hungry by that time and enjoyed fresh and healthy wraps and fruit from the Exchange Cafe (great catering!).

A big thanks to City Park Runners for their support and for hosting the water station. Participants were also smiling from the 'cool-down' provided from the folks at Vitamin Water...Thank you to the Vitamin Water team for that and for spinning some great tunes.

Thank you to Dolce Vita Accessories (Polo Park Shopping Centre), City Park Runners, Stride Ahead, Good Life Fitness, Knick Knacks, ALIVE in the District, and Trail Run Manitoba for the great draw prizes.

Finally, a sincere (and big) thank you for Polo Park Shopping Centre's sponsorship of the event and for the donation of the jute tote bags. Congratulations also to Polo Park and their team on their 50th anniversary this year.

Once again, a huge thanks to all of our participants, sponsors and volunteers for making this event a success. We had a blast and hope you did too and look forward to seeing you next year. Stay tuned for the event date!
