We are so proud to be Canadian, and even more fortunate to be able to use some amazing suppliers to get great Canadian ingredients for our simple, natural products.

Canadian ingredients are simply amazing. We live in such a diverse country that has such a vast landscape and abundance of different ingredients, we love using them in our products.

Canadian Suppliers

Now, you should know whenever possible, we use local Canadian ingredients. We always want to get real, fresh, amazing ingredients from flax seed oil to beeswax to sea buckthorn oil, we love Canadian ingredients.

So, since we're almost at Canada Day we figured we would showcase a handful of the ingredients we use in our products and the suppliers who make them naturally and sustainably.

Flax Seed Oil from Alberta

We get our flax seed oil right here in Alberta! It is really local, coming from our friends down at Highwood Crossing. The owners, Tony and Penny, switched to sustainable farming in 1989 on the same farm that Tony's grandfather used. They don't use pesticides or chemicals on their farm and leave a small carbon footprint. They are actually an award-winning organic farm!

Flax SeedThey freshly press their flax oil every single week through a cold press method. Cold pressing oils is an ancient method where the seeds are slowly mechanically pressed to release the oil. This is done at a lower temperature to keep all the nutrients intact and also done without any heat, chemicals or additions. The seeds are simply pressed.

Flax seed oil and flax seeds are really beneficial to your health. Not only are flax seeds high in dietary fibre, but they are packed full of Omega-3s. Flax seed oil is used in our Hand Creams and is also anti-inflammatory and great for soothing dry, irritated skin. Flax seed oil is great for your skin, nails and hair. It is a power packed ingredient full of amazing omega-3 fatty acids.

Abyssinian Oil from Prince Edward Island

Nature's Crops International from Kensington, Prince Edward Island makes our Abyssinian oil. They are fully sustainable and live by the motto "From soil to oil… naturally.". Woah! Sounds familiar? All-natural! This makes them a great supplier for us to work with because they also work under the same standards as we do. They are constantly aware of making sure their crop system is sustainable, traceable and reliable. We love their Abyssinian oil.Abyssinian Oil Farm

Abyssinian seed oil is made from the seeds of the Abyssinian plant. It is pressed naturally, without the use of solvents of course! It is really high in erucic acid and omega-9. This oil is an excellent moisturizer while being light and non-greasy. It has a really unique fatty acid composition which makes it amazing in our products like our Ultimate Massage Oil.

Sea Buckthorn Oil From Quebec

Sea buckthorn oil is a Canadian ingredient that is absolutely amazing. We source ours from Mont Echo who makes 100% Canadian sea buckthorn oil which is 100% natural. They are completely inspired by nature (like us) and their roots are in sea buckthorn so they are the experts. They make sustainable, traceable and cruelty-free sea buckthorn oil on their orchard in Quebec.

Sea Buckthorn

Sea buckthorn is an amazing Canadian ingredient. It grows wild across our country in big amazing bushes. It is a great source of carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E and amino acids. It also happens to be a super source of rare omega-7 essential fatty acids which can help firm skin. Sea buckthorn oil is rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, so it is great for nourishing and soothing skin. We love to use sea buckthorn oil in our Serums for these amazing properties.

Beeswax From Alberta

Our beeswax farmers

We love bees and beeswax at Rocky Mountain Soap. We get our beeswax from our bee farmers in the Peace River region in Alberta. The Paradis family are actually seventh generation beekeepers (which obviously makes them experts in the subject). Their bee colonies live in sprawling clover fields and help pollinate the Alberta crops in the region. 3500 bee colonies call the Peace River Region home in Alberta.

Bees

Beeswax is actually an amazing ingredient that we use in our butters including our Peppermint Lip Butter and amazing Foot Butter. Beeswax is hypoallergenic, anti-inflammatory and has natural healing properties. It acts as a layer of protection on your skin and naturally soothes and hydrates. It is considered a very versatile ingredient. We also think it is important to support suppliers who are good to their bees!

Hemp from Manitoba

We get our hemp from our friends across the prairies at Manitoba Harvest. They are a Certified B Corporation (which means they make decisions based on the environment and impact around them). This is a true feat as they are one of the world's largest manufacturers of hemp! This is super impressive. They are committed to sustainability and work on their process of "seed to shelf" quality which means every single thing is traceable, safe and fresh. Seriously, we are head over heels for their hemp.

Hemp

Hemp seeds are packed with essential fatty acids like omega-3s and omega-6. Hemp seed oil is rich in these too which is why we love them in our Patchouli and Mint soap. This oil doesn't clog your pores and makes your skin supple and nourished. Hemp seed oil actually draws moisture into your skin, as it is a natural humectant, which makes your skin moisturized and hydrated.

We love Canada and our Canadian Suppliers!
