We’re taking a short break from Rocky Refills program while we work on putting new systems in place. We’re aiming to relaunch an updated program in spring/summer 2027.
For years, you’ve brought your empty bottles back to us to be sanitized, refilled, and loved again. Thanks to you, we’ve given thousands of bottles another life and kept them in use for longer. That’s exactly why we want to take the time to get Rocky Refills right for the future.
Why we're pausing
Rocky has grown a lot since we first launched Rocky Refills, and we want the program to grow with us. To make that happen, there are a few things we need to work through:
- Our new bottles use more recycled plastic. As part of our rebrand, many of our bottles now contain more post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic. That’s a good thing because it keeps virgin plastic out of use, but these bottles have a softer structure that can’t handle the high heat used in our current sanitation process.
- It’s more difficult to consistently hit our high sanitization standards with smaller formats like skincare. We’re exploring whether these formats can be included in our future Refill program, or if there is a better alternative that aligns with our sustainability goals.
- We want Refills in more of our stores. As Rocky grows, we want more customers to be able to take part. That means finding a way to make the program work across more store locations without shipping empty bottles long distances, adding to the overall environmental impact.
What to do with your Rocky bottles for now
Your empties still have somewhere good to go. Ask our store or Customer Experience teams how to responsibly recycle your Rocky bottles or bring them into any of our stores and we’ll recycle them for you.
While Rocky Refills is on pause, any bottles you return will be recycled rather than refilled or reused.
We know many of you love this program because it’s a simple way to use less and get more out of the bottles you already have. It matters to us, too. We’re taking this time to work out how we can keep refilling safely, make the program work better, and bring it to more of our stores.
We’ll share more as we get closer to our launch. In the meantime, thanks for being part of Rocky Refills and for giving your bottles a second life.
Quick questions
Is Rocky Refills ending?
No. This is a temporary pause, and we expect to relaunch an updated Refills program in spring or summer 2027.
Why did you switch to recycled plastic bottles?
Cutting back on virgin plastic is one of the biggest ways we can minimize our packaging footprint. Recycled plastic gives existing plastic material another life, so less new plastic has to be made.
Can't you just refill the new bottles?
Not yet. Proper sanitation is essential when reusing containers, and the new bottles don't hold up to our current high-heat process. We're working on a new system that keeps our sanitation standards high while we keep moving toward more sustainable packaging.
What about the glass skincare bottles?
Glass skincare bottles are recyclable, but their small size makes them more difficult to sanitize reliably. For that reason, skincare isn’t currently a part of Rocky Refills.
We’re exploring whether these formats can be included in our future Refill program, or if there is a better alternative that aligns with our sustainability goals.
