Summer never seems to last long enough. Sure, the days are longer, giving us more time to get out to socialize or exercise, but before you know it, summer is over in the blink of an eye.

We all have our favourite things about the summer time - whether it is the comforting woodsy smell of the camp fire, or the refreshing relief that cold water brings to your skin as you jump in on an impossibly hotday, or ice cream. So much ice cream. Summer never really feels complete without accomplishing our favourite things.

So, with only a handful of weeks left until the season draws to an end, we have your end of summer checklist to make sure you have accomplished those things that make summer …well, SUMMER!

cup of tea and a book.

  • Finish a Book: Yep… read a book, from start to finish. You may have started many books, but finishing one is not an easy feat. Find a cozy spot in the sunshine and get lost in a good read.

  • Find treasures at a garage sale:Summertime brings garage sale season. Follow the signs, like a treasure map to good deals.

  • stargazing at the night sky.
  • Go stargazing:Warm summer nights are meant for stargazing. Grab some pillows and lie down to look up at all the stars twinkling in the night sky. See if you can find all the constellations; remember, the big dipper pours into the little dipper!

Jumping into a lake from a rope swing.

  • Jump into an ocean or a lake:Don’t bother walking into the water, just take that leap! Close your eyes and plug your nose...

  • Sleep in a tent for a night:You don’t need to go camping if you don’t have the time, feel free to pitch a tent in your backyard if you must. Fall asleep to the sounds of crickets and the twinkling of fireflies as you wrap yourself in a sleeping bag and embrace the summer night.

  • Roast marshmallows on a campfire:A classic summer favourite, there is something irresistible about perfecting the roast of a marshmallow on a campfire. If there happens to be chocolate and graham crackers nearby, then so be it.

  • roasting marshmallows on a campfire.

  • Have a BBQ with friends & family:Invite some friends and family over to light up the BBQ for some outdoor cooking. Good food, good friends and a warm summer evening, what else do you need?

  • Go for a hike: The trail doesn’t need to be far or steep, but get out and explore nature... You never know what beautiful view you might find!

  • Attend a festival:Summer is full of celebrations and festivals. Whether you like music, food, culture or art, there is a festival out there for everyone. Make sure you experience one before the summer comes to an end.

  • Take a road trip: Whether it’s a long drive or a short getaway, experience the vast landscapes that Canada offers. Explore the areas around you. And most importantly, don’t forget to create your favourite driving playlist.

  • Watch a firework show:Fireworks are exciting no matter how old you are. Find a good spot and take in a light show in the night sky. The explosive noise is disguised by a beautiful display of lights and colours, you can’t help but feel entranced by it.

  • A picnic basket full of dishes.

  • Go for a picnic: Pack a lunch and find that perfect spot. Nothing beats eating outdoors in the sunshine, even if we have to put up with a few bugs.

  • Take a bike ride: Choose a destination and get peddling. Feel that warm summer breeze on your face as you take to the paths.

  • Waffle cones of ice cream on a harbour.

  • Enjoy your favourite frozen desert: Whether it's a slurpee, freezie, popsicle or scoop of ice cream, that sweet treat cools you off from the inside, out. Just beware of brain freeze.

  • Hit up a farmers market: Summer sunshine creates fruits and vegetables! Nothing is better than the crunch of fresh garden carrots. Find a farmers market near you and stock your fridge with local produce while you still can.

  • sunset on a grassy field.

  • Watch a sunset or a sunrise:

  • The start or end of a summer day is one of the most beautiful and peaceful moments you can experience. Find a spot, whether it's the beach, the top of a mountain or perhaps, just your back patio and take in the colourful sky that accompanies the summer sun as it rises or falls.
