Calling all eco-warriors! We love creating products that are kind to both your skin and the planet but what about products beyond the bathroom? There’s a ton of green living products on the market that it can be hard to know what’s worth a try. At Rocky HQ, we’re constantly swapping recommendations on toxin-free products that we’ve researched, tried and love. So we put a list together of some of our favourites to share with you. Here’s our top picks:

Wool Dryer Balls - Woolzies

“In an ideal world, I’d hang my washing out to air dry in the sunshine. Sadly that doesn’t work with the cold winters we get here! Using wool dryer balls is a good alternative to single use dryer sheets and also helps cut the dry time down by 25%. These ones from Woolzies are handmade and hypoallergenic, or you could get crafty and make your own.” -Jennifer

Feminine Care Products -The Diva Cup

diva cup

“Using tampons and pads every month adds up to a lot of waste, so I made the switch to a Diva Cup. It has been a life-changer and it saves me money too. Since it’s safe to wear for 10-12 hours, it’s perfect for those days when I’m hiking or camping with no access to a washroom. And I no longer have to worry about getting TSS (toxic shock syndrome) from tampons! Bonus: the company also helps women across the world get access to feminine care products.” -Annie

Leak-proof Stainless Steel Containers - Life Without Plastic

stainless steel bowls

“I use these containers all the time to take my lunch to work. There’s no need to worry about my soup leaking on my morning commute and I can pop these bowls straight on the stove to heat up. (Note: they are not microwavable). This company, like the name suggests, also doesn’t use any plastic for their packing materials.” -Salina

Beeswax Food Wraps - Abeego

“I love my beeswax food wraps. My fridge is a land of leftovers, so these are great to cover a bowl or wrap directly on cheeses and fruit to keep them fresh. Ever since I got these, there is no need for plastic wrap and I’ve cut down my use of foil considerably - it’s so satisfying! They can be used again and again by washing between uses. Abeego is a Canadian company and is waste free too, making fire starters or twist ties out of any excess.” -Annie

Bamboo Toothbrushes - Brush Naked

“Finding an eco friendly toothbrush was tricky because many companies use plastic packaging. Brush Naked have found a good solution by using biodegradable, plant based cello wrap. These toothbrushes also feature a bamboo handle and plant based bristles made from tapioca and corn.” -Salina

Copper Straws - United by Blue

“Did you know most recycling facilities don’t accept straws? I love using a straw for my morning smoothie but was looking for an alternative to plastic. These copper straws are hand welded and have a super cute tree engraving on them. This company also removes one pound of trash from the world’s oceans and waterways for every product sold - win win!” -Annie

Food Sharing App - OLIO

OLIO food app

“I used this app all the time in the UK and more people are getting involved worldwide. It’s a great way to connect with your neighbour while reducing food waste. Not going to eat the rest of your cream cheese in time? Pop it on the app for someone local to make use of. Or, take someone up on their offer of spare fruit. Free food and making friends - is there a better combination?” -Jennifer

Clean Beauty App - Think Dirty

ThinkDirtyApp

“I feel like Sherlock Holmes when I use this app. Some natural products have chemically sounding names so it’s hard to tell the good from the bad. The Think Dirty app helps me understand what’s in the products I’m using. You just scan the barcode and the app spits out a Dirty Meter rating with suggestions of cleaner alternatives. 0-3 is awesome, 4-7 means there may be ingredients that have moderate negative effects on health and 8-10 you should steer clear of. It becomes kind of addicting to scan everything in my bathroom!” -Mackenzie
