Smoothie bowls are a great way to pack more nutrients into your morning breakfast. They’re equally a feast for the eyes and easy to customize with different toppings for whomever is at the breakfast table. Berries are rich in antioxidants, which promote youth and good health, and omega-3s can be added with the addition of hemp hearts or ground flax seed.

The key to a great smoothie bowl is to get a nice thick smoothie base so the toppings don’t sink. This recipe calls for frozen berries that help to thicken your smoothie but if you have fresh berries, go for it! Tis the berry season!

for 2 servings

For the Smoothie

  • 3 cups mixed berries, fresh or frozen
  • ½ cup plain greek yogurt
  • 1 cup cold coconut milk
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 2 tbsp hemp hearts
  • 2 tbsp ground flax seed

Topping Options

  • More fresh berries
  • Sliced banana
  • Unsweetened shredded coconut
  • Hemp hearts
  • Ground flax seed
  • Chia seeds
  • Sunflower seeds

  1. Place all smoothie ingredients into a blender and blend until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.

  2. Spoon into bowls

  3. Top with your favourite toppings - get creative!
