Across cultures and climates, plant oils have long been used to gently cleanse, protect, and nourish the skin. Today, modern formulations allow us to revisit this practice with a deeper understanding of skin health and ingredient performance.

For a long time, skincare leaned heavily toward the idea that removing oil was the key to clear skin. This led to harsh, astringent cleansers designed to strip the skin of its natural moisture. While these products may leave skin feeling “clean,” they can also disrupt the skin barrier, which is the layer responsible for protecting against dryness, irritation, and environmental stress.

When the skin barrier is compromised, skin can feel tight, look dull, and even produce more oil to compensate. Over time, this cycle can contribute to sensitivity, imbalance, and breakouts.

Why cleansing with oil works

Cleansing with oil works on a simple principle: like dissolves like. Plant oils can effectively lift away makeup, sunscreen, and daily buildup while supporting the skin’s natural moisture levels.

Certain botanical oils closely resemble the skin’s own sebum, allowing them to cleanse without disrupting the skin’s natural barrier. Oils like jojoba, sunflower, sesame, and olive absorb easily, rinse clean, and leave skin feeling soft and comfortable.

Our approach to cleansing oil

When we formulated our Transformative Cleansing Oil, we kept things intentionally simple. We selected a small blend of lightweight plant oils and calming botanicals chosen for their ability to cleanse thoroughly while remaining gentle across skin types.

The result is an oil cleanser that:

  • Effectively removes makeup and impurities
  • Rinses clean without residue
  • Helps maintain the skin’s natural balance
  • It’s designed to be the first step in your routine, to set the foundation for everything that follows.

How to use cleansing oil

Put a few pumps of oil into the palm of your hand and rub together. Massage gently into dry skin, paying special attention to areas where you want to remove dirt or makeup. Wipe away with a warm, damp cloth.

Alternatively, apply 1–2 pumps directly to a cotton pad and gently wipe away light makeup and dirt. Follow with your favourite toner and moisturizer.

Give your skin time to adjust

Any new routine comes with an adjustment period. We recommend using an oil cleanser consistently for at least two weeks to allow your skin to adapt. Some people notice results quickly; for others, balance builds gradually.

Either way, cleansing should leave your skin feeling comfortable, supported, not stripped or stressed.

Already using our Cleansing Oil? We’d love to hear how it fits into your routine.

I love the cleansing oil and toner. It took a few days to get used to cleaning my face with oil! It takes off makeup amazing! I was having terrible breakouts and this has totally changed my skin.
