As the days get colder and the nights get longer, you might feel like hibernating with hot chocolate, your housecoat and Netflix. I’m with you on that - but winter doesn’t have to be all bad. Take charge, find your own way to embrace winter so that you *might* even look back at it with fondness when summer sets in. First you’re going to need to ready your home for winter - pronto! Check out my ten top tips for ways to stay cozy and embrace winter well.

  1. BRING NATURE INSIDE

Being close to nature has proven benefits for our health and well being. When you’re spending more time indoors, bring nature closer to you by adding a few plants to brighten up gloomy rooms and naturally purify the air.

  1. GET COZY WITH CANDLES

Light a few candles to give your room a warm, welcoming glow. We recommend soy candles naturally scented with essential oils because they’re free of phthalates, burn cleaner and burn longer than regular paraffin candles.

  1. DIFFUSE UPLIFTING SCENTS

Re-energize with a beautifully scented home. Our diffuser features a wooden base and a handmade ceramic top (coming back soon!). The Vitality Blend is a good choice if you’re in need of a pick me up while Breathe Easy is great for relieving symptoms of a cold.

  1. OPEN YOUR WINDOWS

Yes there might be frost on your windows, but it’s still important to open them briefly to circulate fresh air. You’ll be surprised what a difference it makes. Open your windows for 15-20 minutes each day and breathe in that crisp, clean air.

  1. STAY ACTIVE

The thought of venturing out for a quick jog may leave you quivering under your warm duvet, so why not try some at home workouts? Just 30 minutes of cardio is proven to lower blood pressure, improve heart health and keep you fit. There are lots of workout videos on YouTube that are super simple to follow along. I like Blogilates for fun, easy workouts and she even has a few apartment friendly routines that won’t send your neighbours banging on your door for doing too many jumping jacks. Or, bring out your inner yogi and take some time to work on your downward dog and warrior pose.

  1. GET WINTER PROOF SKIN

Fight back against cold, dry weather by giving your skin a well deserved treat. Slough off dead skin with our Vanilla Candy Cane Sugar Scrub before following up with a product rich in cocoa butter to lock in moisture, such as one of our Body Butters. Lips need not feel forgotten about either, as we havelip butters designed specifically to tackle chapped lips.

    1. POP THE KETTLE ON

Stock up your tea collection and pop the kettle on for a warming brew. Hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and marshmallows is a classic winter treat but if you’re looking for something a little different, why not try a tea latte? My current favourite is a London Fog and we have a really easy recipe if you want to give it a go.

    1. SNUGGLE UP WITH A NEW BOOK

Take a break from reruns of Say Yes to the Dress and start the book that’s been on your to-read list for the last year. This is a good way to switch off before bed as the blue light emitted from your phone, TV or laptop can make it harder for you to drift off.

    1. MAKE A WINTER PLAYLIST

It may be a little early to blast Jingle Bells out all over your house, so a playlist of some chilled tunes is a wonderful way to create a cozy atmosphere. Acoustic versions of your favourite songs is a good place to start, Spotify’s Acoustic Covers and Mellow Pop playlists are a couple of my most played.

    1. ADD SOME SOFT FURNISHINGS

Winter is a great excuse to invest in a few soft furnishings. Adding some cushions and a throw to your sofa not only brightens up the room but is perfect for snuggling under with your new book. Block out unwanted draughts with a draught excluder. A rug can also keep your feet nice and toasty on hardwood floors.

So, there’s no reason to fear winter coming when you’re nice and cozy at home. Do you have any top tips for embracing winter? We’d love to hear them in the comments.
