How We're Reducing Waste at Rocky

Posted on

October 19 - 25 is Waste Reduction Week. What an awesome topic to dedicate an entire week to.  At Rocky, there is a lot we are doing and there's a lot we'd like to do in the future too (think our own rooftop garden for example). We're not perfect but we're getting better all the time. Here are some of the things we're currently doing at Rocky to minimize our impact as a business...

  • We reuse boxes to ship between our stores and workshop
  • We use biodegradable cornstarch packing peanuts in our shipments
  • We build or renovate our stores out of toxin-free, reused, reclaimed, recycled and recyclable materials
  • We renovated an old building for our new workshop rather than building a new one
  • We use solar panels and Bullfrog Power to help offset our energy consumption
  • We used reclaimed marble from an office tower in Toronto and repurposed it to make countertops and fixtures for our workshop
  • We bought a used fridge and stove for our workshop rather than buying new
  • When we receive shipments from suppliers, we reuse the packing materials
  • We used reclaimed wood to build furniture and fixturing in our new workshop
  • We use only 100% natural and toxin-free ingredients in everything we make so that when it goes down the drain and out into our watersheds it will do no harm
