Saponification

saponification

Did you know that our natural soaps take 6-8 weeks to cure?

We use the cold process method of soap making at Rocky, which is the traditional and old fashioned way of making soap. We use both coconut and olive oil as the bases for our soap, which is mixed with lye to start the chemical reaction which will create the soap. Once the reaction between the lye and the oils has taken place, there is no lye left in the finished product. In fact, we leave our soaps ‘super-fatted’, which means there is extra olive oil and coconut oil remaining. This makes our bars luxurious, moisturizing and creamy.

The reaction between the olive oil, coconut oil, and lye produces both soap and glycerin. Glycerin is one of the best moisture-balancing ingredients in our soap.
