Rocky's Guide to Good Handwashing

October 15, 2015 1 min read

Handwashing is something that we all do multiple times a day (hopefully), which means it's easy to mentally check out and get sloppy with our technique. Handwashing is one of the most important things you can do to stop the spread of disease, and how you do it can either dampen or amplify its effectiveness drastically. So here's our guide to giving yourself a thorough scrub. When Should You Wash Your Hands?

  • Before and after eating
  • Before and after preparing food (and in between when handling different types of food)
  • After touching animals, animal food, animal treats, and after cleaning up after your pet
  • After sneezing, coughing or blowing your nose
  • After using the washroom
  • After taking care of someone who is sick
  • Before and after changing a diaper, or helping a child to use the toilet
How Should You Wash Your Hands?
  • Wet your hands under running water
  • Apply soap, be it bar or liquid. Be generous
  • Lather the soap by rubbing your hands together
  • Coat both hands and wrists and be sure to get in between every finger, and under all your fingernails
  • Scrub thoroughly for 30 seconds and repeat if necessary
  • Rinse your hands under running water to wash away all the suds
  • Pat or blow dry
